Comparison is Violence

sp11-WEB-taylor-mac-drag-150Playwright, actor, performer, singer-songwriter Taylor Mac introduces his edgy performance "Comparison is Violence" to Rachel Stewart.  By dressing in drag, Mac expresses his innermost self to an audience of enthusiasts, critics, and inquisitives alike at his theatrical and colorful shows.  His show this year at Spoleto highlights that a trend exists in modern American culture -- that we judge others passively via comparison.  By comparing, Mac states that we actually say to others, "You're not as special as you think you are."  Comparision therefore eliminates the ability to celebrate individuality.  In his interview with Rachel, Mac speaks directly to this idea and enlightens us with his description of life lived theatrically.
